What if I don't know where I want to move yet?
Honestly, we prefer it. About 90% of our clients are undecided when they come to us, and that's one of the first things we help with. What makes us different from most companies is that we work worldwide and have 20+ years of experience helping people choose the right country. Even clients who arrive set on one country often change their minds once new information comes to light. It's fine if you already know where you want to go, but it's not required.
Can I actually qualify for a visa or residency abroad?
There are hundreds of visa and residency pathways around the world, and each one has different costs, pros, and cons depending on your situation. Part of our job is identifying the best path for you in the countries you most want to live in. Alongside our legal team, we help you understand which visas you qualify for, which countries fit your goals and budget, and map out your best relocation timeline and strategy.
Shouldn't I take an exploratory trip first?
A lot of sources online are trying to sell you an exploratory trip. What we've found is that it's much more important to do a strategic relocation analysis first, before spending thousands on a trip. Our job is to narrow down the most likely places you'll move so that an (optional) exploratory trip is targeted and efficient, not years and tens of thousands of dollars chasing the wrong destinations. About half of our clients take exploratory trips, but it's not required. When they do, we help plan the itinerary and connect them with our local contacts for maximum impact.
Can I just do this myself?
It's possible. Kristin did it that way starting in 2002, moving to multiple countries with no assistance and learning the hard way. Over the years, she became a relocation professional and figured out what mistakes to avoid. Our service is for people who want to move abroad efficiently, seamlessly, and stress-free the first time, not the people who want to climb that learning curve themselves and later say "hindsight is 20/20."
What makes Kristin qualified to help with your move?
Kristin has been living abroad since 2002. She studied International Business at Griffith University in Australia with a focus on International Human Resources Management (helping multinational corporations move abroad). She's been helping people move abroad since 2005, including corporate relocation in Costa Rica. She founded Orbis Relocation in 2011, has personally helped over 1,600 people relocate to 37 countries, holds an MBA, is bilingual, and has visited 65 countries. We also have a global team supporting her work.
How much does the program cost, and how do the three tiers work?
We offer three tiers of support:
Tier 1: for slow travelers and roving retirees who want to travel the world long-term but aren't ready to apply for a visa or residency permit yet.
Tier 2: for people relocating to a country for the foreseeable future (at least a year) and applying for a visa or residency permit. This is a done-with-you service.
Tier 3: our all-inclusive, white-glove, done-for-you service.
Specific pricing depends on your situation. We'll walk you through the right fit on the call.
What happens to my taxes when I move abroad?
Taxes are one of the most important (and most complex) parts of moving abroad. We work closely with our vetted partners in the US, Canada, and abroad to give you individual consulting and support to decide which country fits your long-term tax plan. Then we help you implement that plan and stay supported with filings both at home and abroad after you arrive.
What if my plans change or I need to push my move date?
The relocation process is fluid, and we adapt to changes in your destination or timeline. That's completely normal. We offer support plans from one month up to three years. Most clients relocate within 6 to 12 months, but if a family or health situation shifts your plan, we can adjust with you.
What kind of support do I get after I land?
Our service covers you before, during, and after you move. In your first month abroad, we help you get registered with the municipality, set up healthcare, adapt to the culture, enroll in language classes, and get settled and oriented in your new home. Basically anything you need help with after arriving. After your move, you also have the option to remain part of our global Ready to Relocate community.
Which countries can you actually help me move to?
We offer relocation services in over 40 countries worldwide. Our top 10 destinations include Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador, and Albania.
Do you work with couples or families? My move is complex.
Yes. Whether you have a big family, you're a couple, or you're moving solo, we can help. We've successfully relocated single retirees, couples, families with kids, and multi-generational households. We also help with pet relocation. Many of our families include neurodivergent children, and we plan accordingly. Complex moves are what we do best.
Am I too old to start a new chapter abroad?
It's never too late to go abroad, until it is. The best time to plant a tree was ten years ago; the second-best time is now. We've relocated clients from age 18 to age 82, plus families with babies and young children. We've also helped clients with health issues that added complexity but didn't make the move impossible. If you have the dream and are financially able, this is your window of opportunity. Take it.
