After much speculation, the European Union announced today which countries will be approved for non-essential travel to the continent during July 2020.

The ban will go into effect on July 1. Every two weeks thereafter, E.U. officials will assess each country’s new rate of infection, circulation levels, and general aptitude in crisis management (I.E., contact tracing, testing, containment, treating, and reporting).

🌍 COUNTRIES ALLOWED (AS OF JUNE 30): 🌏

  • Algeria

  • Australia

  • Canada

  • Georgia

  • Japan

  • Montenegro

  • Morocco

  • New Zealand

  • Rwanda

  • Serbia

  • South Korea

Any country with a COVID-19 infection rate above the E.U. average on June 15, 2020 of 16 cases per 100,000 people will have its residents restricted from entering the European Union and Schengen Zone, including (but not limited to):

  • Brazil

  • Ecuador

  • India

  • Panama

  • Peru

  • Russia

  • Saudi Arabia

  • United States

At least two E.U. countries - Ireland and Denmark - are opting out of the ban, as it would require them to restrict travel from the United Kingdom.

According to the announcement, non-E.U. countries which will be joining the ban include Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, and the Vatican. Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein may also participate.
